CLASSES FOR 2012

Master Classes

DanceAbility
A two day workshop with Alito Alessi
DanceAbility cultivates a common ground for creative expression of all people. The material is drawn from the group present in a given situation and isolates no one. The method supports self-empowerment by offering ways that all individuals can participate fully in expressing their creative choices, including respecting one’s own limits. Following one’s own interest and desire, and applying that to the benefit of one’s community, is a basic DanceAbility teaching.

Dancer as Dance Maker
taught by Choreographer Risa Jaroslow

This two-hour workshop will begin with a warmup that focuses on using weight and the floor to both work deeply in the joints and achieve an open, light body.  We will expand this exploration by working in pairs.  We will learn movement structures from some of my work as well as ones that we create in class.  Within these structures each dancer can make choices about phrasing – tempo, rhythm, shape space, movement quality.   We’ll work in pairs to work each dancers’ material into a duet.

Open to all dancers at all levels

  • When: Tue, June 26, 2012 10am-12noon
  • Where: 1428 Alice Street, Oakland, CA 94612
(Close to 12th Street BART, wheelchair accessible)

We will focus on positive body awareness, natural creativity, teamwork, motor co-ordination, personal expression, discipline, and self-control.
