Serious Fun!

Join AXIS for an invigorating series that combines creative movement, improvisation and modern dance to explore the exciting genre of physically integrated dance. The focus is to deepen our capacity for movement invention both in our own unique bodies and in relationship to the bodies around us. For people with and without physical disabilities, no dance experience required.

Fall Session: Monday Nights 6-7:30pm: 11/22/2010 -12/13/2010 - taught by AXIS dancers
Where:Studio E at the Malonga in Oakland, 1428 Alice Street (@14th) , Oakland 94612
Close to 12th Street BART
Cost: $15 per class, $55 for 4 weeks [no one will be turned away for lack of funding]

Proffesional Development for Teachers
hosted as part of Arts Integration Specialist Certificate Program Elective Workshop (AISCP)

Description of Workshop
InMotion Fundamentals of Creative Dance for Youth of All Abilities  

AXIS offers an inspiring movement-based Creative Dance workshop for teachers interested in bringing movement to youth with and without disabilities. We will introduce the AXIS model of physically integrated dance and explore a philosophy, approach and specific creative dance exercises that encourage interaction between youth of all abilities where everyone participates as an equal. 
The session introduces Creative Dance exercises and activities for use in the classroom as well as discussion about disability, language, and the development of AXIS' extraordinary inclusive community education program. Participants will have the opportunity to brainstorm, problem solve and adapt some of their own favorite exercises and lesson plans.  Come dressed to move!

Creative Dance Class for Teens with and without disabilities - Sign Up NOW!!!
Tuesdays 4:20-5:20pm

Do you like to move? Do you like to dance and to be creative? Do you enjoy dancing with peers? Then join our exciting creative dance class for teens with and without disabilities (age 12-21). During this 4-week session we will teach modern & creative dance techniques, giving you the opportunity to discover your own dance vocabulary. Together we will explore new and exciting ways to move, build social skills and body awareness while having fun. 

Fall Series I: October 5, 12, 19, 26
Fall Series II: November 23, 30, December 7, 14

Cost: $55 for 4 weeks

Creative Dance Classes for Kids! - Sign Up NOW!!!
Tuesdays 3:30-4:15pm

What would childhood be without the chance to express ourselves through dance? AXIS is one of few programs offering children with disabilities the opportunity to explore their “inner dancer” in a structured environment with professional disabled dancers as role models. We will focus on positive body awareness, natural creativity, teamwork, motor co-ordination, personal expression, discipline, and self-control. Children between age 6-12 with and without disabilities are welcome to attend.
