AXIS’ Engagement Programs launched in 1989 in direct response to the community’s desire to study integrated dance. AXIS maintains an extensive engagement program, offering opportunities for all ages and abilities, and we are a primary pre-professional training ground for aspiring dancers with disabilities.

Youth Programs
Youth Performances & Classes
AXIS Dance Company’s youth programs provide students with the exciting experience of enjoying a live AXIS performance and/or workshop. AXIS dancers showcase artistic repertory, provide educational information on disability, share personal dance history, and introduce the audience to an integrated dance experience. Programs include a 5-minute Q&A session at the end. AXIS provides an Activity Guide for teachers to use with their students prior to and after performances.
For 2025, AXIS is working towards a venue-hosted model for our Youth Engagement Performances vs. in-school assemblies. Stay tuned for updates coming this fall for how your school can participate.
Adult Programs
Teacher Trainings
Teachers, educators and administrators are given tools to create an equitable, accessible and creative environment in their classroom or organization. Workshops and in-depth trainings include participatory exercises and activities for use in classrooms, as well as discussion about disability, language, and the development of AXIS’ extraordinary inclusive community education program. Our trainings are offered in two modules – completion of Module I is required to attend Module II.
Classes and Workshops
At AXIS, we believe everyone can dance. Classes & workshops are taught by company dancers, community teaching artists, and AXIS alumni. All online and in-person classes are open to dancers with and without disabilities; please read individual class & workshop descriptions for more information.
Summer Intensive
The annual AXIS Summer Intensive invites disabled and non-disabled movers and educators from around the world to engage, share, and learn from one another and the AXIS artists. Through improvisation, choreography & performance, and dance education, participants have the opportunity to collaborate and build community.
