This September, we are thrilled to partner with the New York City Ballet School Programs to offer an internal Fundamentals of Inclusive Teaching workshop for NYCB School Programs teaching artists and staff.
In this program at New York City Ballet, students and educators work to strengthen their own artistic voices and explore how ballet is an accessible art form relevant to their daily lives. Aligned with the Common Core Learning Standards and the NYC Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in Dance, these programs promote experiential, and interdisciplinary approaches to learning that center social-emotional development, collaboration, and self-expression.
Lead by AXIS Artistic Director Nadia Adame and Engagement Project Manager Katherine Nauman, this workshop will explore how to bring more disability inclusive teaching methods to this program. The session will include learning and experiencing participatory exercises and activities for use in classrooms, as well as discussion around disability, language, and the development of AXIS’ extraordinary community education program.
