In this class we’ll warm up with movement exercises accessible to all bodies, informed by Sebastian’s tenure with AXIS Dance Co and his work in contemporary dance and also as a poet. The focus of class will be building movement sequences based on images from a short poem about sitting by a lake and noticing the world.

Grounded in Laban/Bartenieff principles, this movement improvisation class will explore the vitality that comes with holding seemingly opposing physical ideas simultaneously. Paying particular attention to the presumed polarity of inner vs. outer, we will playfully explore how inner sensation, intention, and meaning is supported by and foundational to a dynamic, embodied presence in the world.

Ellice Patterson will utilize her adaptive ballet and modern techniques that she has developed with dancers at Abilities Dance Boston (ABD) to bring movement styles that work for various bodies. In addition, she will share some choreography from an upcoming ADB production.
