Saturday Sept. 17th | 8pm w/ ASL Interpretation

Sunday, Sept. 18th
2pm w/ Audio Description | 1pm Touch Access Tour

ODC Theater San Francisco

AXIS’s new Artistic Director Nadia Adame presents a triple bill of world premiere pieces for her first home season in this role. Named after the Spanish word for both ‘forward’ and ‘go ahead,’ the three works in Adelante all find common ground in the triumph of the human spirit.

Adame opens the evening with her new piece Breathe Again, which explores the most suffocating parts of our collective and individual journeys: After a moment, a smile, a word, we pivot from those difficult moments and find a way to move forward.

Ben Levine’s Tread follows with a joyful exploration of momentum, friction, and gravity that uses wheeled children’s toys to level the playing field between disabled and non-disabled dancers.

Closing the evening is celebrated Spanish choreographer Asun Noales. Noales premiers a new work in her signature dance theater style that digs into the desires, pleasures, and delights of human relationships.

ACCESSIBILITY

The ODC Theater is Wheelchair Accessible, with accessible bathrooms. Please contact the ODC Box Office at [email protected] or (415) 549-8534 to reserve ground-floor accessible seats for wheelchair users, patrons with disabilities, and companions. Accessible seating is also available for those requesting ASL interpretation.

ASL Interpretation provided Saturday, September 17th, 8 pm.

Audio Description provided Sunday, September 18th, with pre-show Haptic Access Tour for 1 pm. AD provided by Gravity Access Services

The Haptic Access Tour is an opportunity for those who are blind or low-vision to come onto the stage to meet the Artistic Director, Audio Describer and our AXIS dancers for an introduction to the synopsis and structure of the pieces. The Tour provides the participants with an intimate and up-close tactile experience to feel and engage with the space, artists, props, costumes and set up of the stage. We welcome the blind/low-vision community as well as others interested in an inside experience of the performance. To register, please contact AXIS Dance Company at (510) 625-0110 or email [email protected]

Opening Night Reception:

On Friday, September 16th, from 7-7:30 pm, join AXIS for a special pre-show reception in the ODC Theater lobby to celebrate our new Artistic Director Nadia Adame. Drinks and small bites will be provided. Please note this option is only for the Friday, Sept. 16th performance and includes a ticket to the show.

Following the performance is a Q&A with the AXIS Dancers & Artistic Director
