Divide

Divide is a trio that draws inspiration from visual artist Carl Andre’s designs working in minimalism: Spill, 8 cuts and Copper Ribbon. Divide is an abstract work exploring the divide in human interaction in movement, space and time.

Joel, a dancer who uses a wheelchair, places one hand on the floor in a side lunge while bringing his other arm to support Sonsherée. Sonsherée balances one leg on Joel's chair while extending her other leg; she looks towards Joel as she holds the length of his arm for support. Joel wears a sleeveless turquoise shirt; Sonsherée wears a burgundy jumpsuit. The dancers perform in bright stage lighting juxtaposed to a dark background.
