the inter-active body with Katie Faulkner

June 7, 2022 @ 10:30 am 11:30 am PDT

Katie looks into directly into the camera in what is clearly a selfie. Katie is a white, cis woman with long grey/blonde hair and is bundled in a navy scarf and black down jacket. She is wearing gold hoop earrings.

Grounded in Laban/Bartenieff principles, this movement improvisation class will explore the vitality that comes with holding seemingly opposing physical ideas simultaneously. Paying particular attention to the presumed polarity of inner vs. outer, we will playfully explore how inner sensation, intention, and meaning is supported by and foundational to a dynamic, embodied presence in the world.

Prior to her recent relocation to North Carolina, Katie Faulkner spent 20 years in the SF Bay Area working as a performer, choreographer, teaching artist, and Artistic Director of little seismic dance company. While in the Bay, her choreographic work received support in the form of numerous grants, commissions, residencies, and awards and she was an active faculty member in the performing arts departments at USF, UC Berkeley, and Stanford. Katie is a Certified Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analyst and is currently pursuing a Masters of Education from Harvard University. She was a dancer with AXIS Dance Company from 2003-2007.
