AXIS redefines dance & disability.
GYROKINESIS® is a unique movement system that is designed to gently awaken all systems in our bodies while creating mobility and functional strength. The circular movements with a quality of “yawning” can balance the tone of the soft tissues, decompress the joints and open up energy pathways.
Grounded in Laban/Bartenieff principles, this movement improvisation class will explore the vitality that comes with holding seemingly opposing physical ideas simultaneously. Paying particular attention to the presumed polarity of inner vs. outer, we will playfully explore how inner sensation, intention, and meaning is supported by and foundational to a dynamic, embodied presence in the world.
MoveLab is an innovative movement class designed to support whole-person wellbeing through exploring our unique relationship to movement & embodiment while centering self-trust & satisfaction.
Come take class with our full company! This improvisation class is designed to re-awaken curiosity with a playful approach to dance, while deepening our listening skills. This class offer a creative framework in which participants can reconnect with their bodies, explore their imaginations, increase their stamina, and experience the pleasure of movement in a welcoming, accepting environment.
Join our full company for an exploration into foundations of contemporary dance technique: Release, contraction, extension, use of momentum, and connecting breath with movement. Also we will all use the idea of translation to creatively explore, connect with our curiosity, and experience joy for movement!

Join the AXIS dancers in-person for a FREE all-levels improvisational dance jam at the gorgeous Berkeley Ballet Theater studios! In this class, disabled, non-disabled, and neurodiverse participants are invited to respond to the people and environments around them with embodied joy.
The goal of the AXIS Choreo-Lab Fellowship is to develop, refine and advance the artistic skills of disabled choreographers. The Lab offers an inclusive environment where established, disabled artists mentor their peers to challenge boundaries and create perception changing art.
In order to be considered for the Choreo-Lab Fellowship, you must be available for the duration of the Lab, identify as a disabled choreographer, reside in and be legally able to work and receive payment in the United States.
